I just got orders a while ago, and did a quick search of the forums but didn't find anything on this place.

Anyone been that can provide some insight?

That squadron no longer exists here at Lackland AFB. When I graduated Tech School I had that on my orders and I ended up going to the 690 ISS. I do not recall how I ended up being pointed in the right direction but I ended up getting in contact with the correct squadron, best of luck to you as well.

Well it says the AF ISR Agency is my gaining MAJCOM so I don't know if that changes anything?

I stand corrected. I talked to some of the contractors in my shop and they say it is located on Medina which is practically on top of Lackland. They also said they fall under the AF ISR Agency, most of the JWICS based units do. Guess that's what I get for taking the word of the Lackland AFB telephone operator >,<.

It is an Intel Squadron so I'm assuming you have your TS/SCI clearence?

Yup sure do!

Still waiting to find out more as my report date is in July but I'm suppose to go to Kandahar in April. My Chief is trying to get my report date pushed back so I can still deploy.

Thanks for the info as well, I appreciate it.

I have been away from there for 3 years, but last I was there everything comm-related was handled "in-house" which is why Lackland doesn't realize it is still there. If you are not already, get used to a lack of windows, cell phones, ipods, cds, and any other media going into the office with you...

BTW - I miss working there, it was awesome!!! If I didn't get Wright-Pat, I would have wanted to go back there... :-)

I was there for about 3 years before skipping town to korea. About 12 other guys left for korea with me if that says anything about the assignment. If you're a 3D0X1, you'll most likely start at the help desk. You won't be working on servers, routers, switches, etc., but you will learn a lot about making accounts, and reseting passwords. There's also a bunch of applications the intel weenies use, and you'll have to know how those work. The 543rd is a support squadron, and most of your customers are from the 93rd Intel Sq. Together you fall under the 543rd IG, which falls under the 70th ISRW, which falls under AF ISR Agency. If you start at the Help Desk you will eventually have the opportunity to move to one of the Admin teams. IF this happens you will have the opportunity to get involved with servers more, and possibly exchange depending on which team. There's a lot of contractors, and they don't like to share too much on the teams. The guys at the help desk are cool though. If you don't like it, you can try to PCA to security hill. It's a lot easier then trying to PCS. I didn't hate the place, but it I wouldn't go back if I had a choice. The leadership was really going down hill when I was leaving, and I've heard its not much better. I've been in Osan for about 14 months, so it could be different now. I was a shift sup at the HD most of the time I was there, and it was a headache. I will say San Antonio kicked A$$ though. If it wasn't for the area and the guys that worked for me, the assignment would have been much worse.

EVERYTHING comm related is handled in-house. Picture it as a base within a base...

I did my 2.5 years in the helpdesk, then went and worked with CE for a 7 months and ran FMT (where uncleared airmen go until they get a clearance) for 5, then was put into an admin team. Helpdesk duty sucked which is why I volunteered to do "something different", so I got the CE job. Then volunteered to run FMT. I did a lot of stuff while on the admin team and loved the expirience to work on some truly "different" systems. Personally, I had fun doing what I did, but a LOT of people hated being there. Basically, I am saying that there are opportunities there that wouldn't be available in other places. Or you can sit and be miserable at the helpdesk until the assignment opens for Korea... (I know many that did this while I was there)

Also, contractors everywhere do not share much with us as we are prone to not be there when needed (appt, overslept, personal issues, training, etc). Prove you are trustworthy and realiable, they will open up to you. Being willing to figure things out yourself helps a LOT!!!

Hey guys thanks for the info! That sucks as I have free reign over our servers here currently, but I'll just have to prove myself again which is no biggie. Looking forward to a change.
