Good luck. I am glad I don't have to take that damn thing for 2.5 more years. It's a beast.

Just wanted to say congrats man! I'll be taking mine once I start school full time again so I can get up to date with all the new fangled technologies. Any preferences on what I should help study?

You can start with the actual certification books, instead of a website designed to help cheat your way to passing the exam.

I used Todd Lamle CCNA book, then after completing the chapter test wich gave me a better understanding of what I read, then I used how2pass to get familiar with the test enviroment and test question structure. I recommend how2pass cause they where really dead on, if your passing there final test at 90% or above you are more than ready to take your test. PM me if you need help of subject focus but remeber the test is randomly genorated with the possibility of getting a test with 44-70 questions average. Good luck man. The test was a heart pounder for me..

Dude you cheated to pass the CCNA, and youre really trying to advocate others to do the same? Are you serious?

The current CCNA library prepares people quite well to take the exam.

The exam is 90 minutes long and between 45-55 questions, not 44 - 70.

The subject focus of the exam changes with each person who takes the exam. The ONLY resource needed to know what to study for on the exam is the official exam blueprint:

What he said, He saved me the cut and paste. GL to those taking the test.

@lifeline i think cisco needs to update the number of questions, my test only had 44 questions.

Good luck! Earned my CCNP not too long ago. Don't forget that the GI Bill will pay for your certification tests. ONT was the hardest for me, mostly due to the wireless info that I don't use. To the people against using all of the help out there, good on you. For the rest of us, not trying to take 10 years to learn technologies that we don't utilize each day and only have exposure to in books....well, I guess we aren't as good as you. ANYHOW....the Cisco Express Guides that are on the IT E-Learning website ARE the materials Global Knowledge uses in their courses. It's all free on the portal. Don't be afraid of failing a test and having to retake. The knowledge you will get from seeing the labs, etc and then being able to research and fill in your knowledge gaps is worth the cost of the exam.

You may want to take the Composite Exam if you feel comfortable with BCMSN and BSCI material. It's not easier per se, and it isn't any cheaper than taking them individually, but if you are solid in routing and switching then it is a way to reduce the amount of tests. On the other hand....I failed it the first time, which is like failing 2 exams at once....so YMMV. It didn't bother me to fail and take it again 5 days later. I killed the labs the second time around because I then knew what CISCO wanted me to know for the test.

BOSON CCNP Netsim is worthless in my opinion. Work bought it for me to help my studies. It was weak. I tell the guys I work with to use the CBTs on the portal, read the Cisco Express Guides and utilize the internet to its fullest potential when prepping for a test. Let's be honest here, we aren't all using EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS and BGP everyday. Unless you are a book-learner that can forego actual experience and fully understand every scenario of each technology; you are going to need help.

GNS3 is awesome, btw. If you aren't using it, you should be.

You can usually find some decent cisco labs off of ebay for a decent price.

There is no need to buy a lab (or equipment) unless you are preparing for the CCIE Lab

For the CCNP level I recommend you download and run Dynamips (front end to Dynagen) which is a Cisco router emulator. All you need is the Cisco IOS which does not come with the download of course.

This is freely available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Dont worry about 3700 IOS's. 3750's for example are just a layer 3 switch. Its just like using a 'router' IOS.

That being said I need to get a hold of some IOS's myself.

Ill be finishing the CCDA in a month, then I move to the CCNA Security, then back to the CCNP.

Im playing the "how many certs I can get without having to do too much work" game.

The CCDP is the routing and switching exam from the CCNP and the Architecture exam. Its 3 exams instead of 4. Other tracks have the routing or switching (or both) exam of the CCNP as a requirement as well.
