My squadron commander has given us the go ahead on any school, TDYs, and Certs relevant to our career field. He pretty much said if it is relevant and helps the work center we can do it. Besides obviously going to the people in charge of education in the squadron are there any other ways of finding classes? Is there a link or something on Virtual MPF that I'm missing? Where exactly do the education advisors for the squadron get there listings from anyway?

I would look to see what's in your area first then go from there.

They make us go to new horizons. They do CompTIA, but the instructors are pretty meh IMO.

Our unit will authorize any certifications that are used by our job.

I have N+, A+, Base SAS, and Advanced SAS. Even though I don't even use N/A+ anymore since I'm not filling a CSA position as an alt duty.

I spent a few months at Techskills recently and I was able to get my Sec+, MCSA, MCSE, MCSE-S, & CCNA. I paid 9,000 and had a timeframe to get as many certs as I could. We had such a high ops tempo at work so I couldn't find the time to get more than the ones I listed, but I was extremely happy with Techskills. I am going to New Horizons for my CISSP boot camp so the jury is still out on how good the OKC branch is.

Well, New Horizons is a franchise type of school. Therefore, I wouldn't really expect that much quality and it can vary on the area.

I've seen some instructors there who are really good, and some who used to be 3C0's who are just trying to pull a pay check.

You may have to make sure the base training manager signs off on training outside of regular channels. At least that is the way it works at Schriever. I have taken several formal training courses even though AFSPC was offering the contracted "official" ones locally. My unit paid for them but the Training manager had to sign off first.

BTW. thetrainingcamp.com is excellent for bootcamp style courses.
