Does getting short tour credit from a deployment effect my STRD (Short Tour Return Date) towards an assignment?

My last short tour was completed in 2005. I am currently deployed and will recieve short tour credit. Will this reset my STRD to 2010?

I am wanting to get a short tour out of my current assignment and I am hoping that deploying doesn't push back my chances.

I tried looking this up in AFI 36-2110 but I couldn't find any info on it.

Thanks

Yes getting short tour credit adjusts your STRD and ODSD. When you return from a TDY where you get short tour credit your STRD and ODSD will be adjusted to the same date (date of return).

If you don't meet short tour credit requirements, your STRD gets adjusted the number of days TDY to the overseas location (ie. you went for 5 months, your STRD date gets 5 month added to it)

You want AFI 36-2110, paragraph ~3.5 and Table 3.4, Rule 16 (unless a different one applies)

Thanks for the reply.

Can I turn down the short tour credit?

I really don't want it to effect my chance to get a short tour out of my assignment and the way it sounds it will.

I think if you volunteer for a short tour your STRD is irrelevant to some extent. your still ahead of non vols. The STRD is important for people who don't want to go on another short tour. Though I suppose if it was between you and another volunteer for a short tour assignment they may take STRD into account. not sure on that one though.

Ripcord is right. The Short tour return date really only useful if you are looking to stay away from short tours. I've done 3 in a row without any problems or special requests.

I'd like to go to Korea and score a short tour. Unfortunately I'v been selected for an assignment elsewhere.

I got lucky and did 187 days for my deployment before they changed the 181 day requirement.

This is what I hope not to happen. My dream sheet is full of short tours (none Korea, been there, done that). I just don't want to get bumped because my STRD is '10 when it should really be '05.

The way it works is:
Volunteers for short tours get looked at first. Those that are currently on short tours that require 100% manning (Korea) get first look, then people on other short tours, then the people on extended long tours, then regular overseas tours, then stateside personnel.

So...if you are state side and you request to go to a short tour that someone in Korea wants and there is only 1 slot....you are outta luck.
