Question for the forum...

Got a buddy who just found out he made tech, he is currently serving a short tour with a follow on assignment to hawaii. Does him getting promoted change/canx his follow on? I told him to check w/ outbound but I would like to know if any of you have heard or dealt with this situation.

thanks!

If there is no position available for a 7-level, it "could" canx the follow-on. But, 7-lvl positions are usually plentiful, so it shouldn't be a problem. You suggestion to contact outbound is a good one.

It shouldnt as most positions are coded for one up and one down.

In my case I am filling a MSgt billet as a Staff. My case is a little odd as the work is more Staff related then MSgt and the billet should be changed but there is major issue with it as the AF doesnt pay for the billet.

Assignments in the CONUS are based on skill level associated with the paygrade. A1C and less are all in one category. SrA and SSgt in another. TSgt and MSgt in another. SMSgt and CMSgt are separate.

OCONUS assignments tend to be by actual rank, with little room for substitution.

Deployment billets are MOSTLY marked as wiling to accept one GROUP up or down for substitution. These groups tend to be Airman, NCO, SNCO, CGO. Some specific billets, generally those as Senior Enlisted Advisor (an old title, I know) accept no grade substitutions.

It shouldn't do anything to him. I have been in that boat twice before when I have been promoted and nothing happenend. I have seen it where they move someone to a different position on base at a different unit, but you never know what will happen. Check with outbound is a good start.
