Would you be anywhere in the chain of command?

If so, I'm thinking you wouldn't get too many responses on here.

The money is good, if you qualify for the position.

There is no chain of command. You are part of a collaborative team who reports to an off-site manager. Youre expected to work independently of supervision, and collaboratively within the team, and with the customer.

Unemployment in NC is still flirting at 10%.

Oh and CENTCOM is moving to Bragg. Thats another 30K plus personnel and job opportunities.

Then there is no accountability.

One of the positions I have recently considered with the VA would be the only guy from the department in that part of the country. There's still somebody responsible for evaluating performance. Somebody that the distant supervisor will listen to in order to form opinions come evaluation time.

Somebody holds authority and power over the team, even if not through direct lines of supervision.

How did this little semantics war make you feel about yourself? Do you have any other problems that you would like to discuss?

The idea of no chain of command must give you a constant woody. Unless you are in a commune somewhere there is always some hierarchy.

Oh and by the way nice display of OPSEC ya chucklehead. How about listing all the units and end strength of each while you are at it.

I am going to have to agree with the sentiment that lifeline was talking about at first. There are contracting jobs were there is almost no real supervisor to deal with. Your customer is what is important to the contracting company. So while your customer doesn't function as your boss, they are really the only people you need to keep happy. My last job was like this, I was the only person in my company that worked in the country I was in. I had a pretty loose chain that didn't get involved unless I somehow let my sh*t explode. I just had to make sure the customer was happy, which also means being a good communicator so you can key them in on reasons why they sometimes cannot have certain things changed to the way they would like it. I was never sat down and told that so and so is my supervisor. It was pretty damn awesome I must say, but if a person was a real shitbag, you could probably float around as a worthless piece of garbage for years since it was a short tour base and most people would rather just get their year over and move rather than deal with shitbags.

In the end, I am betting that the job lifeline is talking about probably works about the same way. You take care of your customer and get to enjoy being your own boss even if there is supposed to be some kind of loose company hierarchy.

I was told it was. Ill ask again to clarify. Might have been FORSCOM - I think they have some huge A$$ building in Ga thats something like 6 stories underground. In any event, there will be plenty of jobs for years to come.
